Understanding Thyroid Disorders
The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located in the front of the neck. Thyroid disorders may cause the gland to become overactive, underactive, enlarged, or develop nodules.
Common thyroid conditions include:
- Thyroid nodules
- Goiter (enlarged thyroid)
- Hyperthyroidism
- Hypothyroidism
- Multinodular goiter
- Thyroiditis
- Thyroid cancer
While many thyroid conditions are managed medically, surgery is recommended in selected cases for effective and permanent treatment.
